Hi all I'm your cousin, aunt, daughter, sibling, etc. I was born Carolyn Mary Burke, the sixth child of Mary Ann and Robert Burke, in Brooklyn N.Y. I don't remember anything about NY. My first memory is of Florida - I remember the Johnson's house on the lake - the Adams' pool - our dog Puff - I remember watching my siblings go off to school and waiting for my chance. It did come. I completed kindergarten in Florida and then we move to S.C. where I started first grade and finished high school. I moved to Columbia SC after graduation - worked a few jobs and came back to Anderson. I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I came home and did just about everything. I knew I wasn't ever getting married and having kids. That changed quickly - on my way home one day, I got pulled over by the law. I always knew to hand them my I.D. and registration and I would be OK. This one asked me out. I avoided him for quite some time and then decided - Why Not? I started a relationship with Daryl 13 years ago. We've been together ever since. It hasn't been easy. We've been through our "ups and downs". After the birth of our Nephew - I wanted kids - Daryl didn't think we were ready. Let's save money and be ready. Later, when he wanted kids, I was too busy with my work. Then when we met half way - we found out I wouldn't be able to. If we did - it would be a struggle - we weren't sure we were ready. We bided our time and moved on. We married in August of 93 - bought a house and began working on it. We were doing well. In December of 97(?) I came home from a difficult day at work. Daryl was in the recliner and asked me how my day went. I said OK. He told me to come over to the chair and he lifted up the blanket he was under ( I assumed he wanted something else) and out popped a little head - a puppy - we named him Carol's Mister Pepper - He is a poodle. I was so happy for this new edition. It was one of the greatest surprises of my life. Two years later - the same scenario - except this was a she and we named her Carol's Angel Ashley. Ashley and Pepper each have their own personalities. They are great. I have been supported tremendously by my Great Aunt Harriet. She sends me cards of prayer from the church and I always know she's there. I've been in contact with her all my life but we never connected until now. She is my greatest strength. Over time, I think I want to give up - Then I get a prayer card or an encouraging letter. Daryl is such a strong man. No matter what has happened in life, he's helped the family when ever he could. He's stood by my side through thick and thin. Daryl works for the Anderson County Sheriffs Department. My friends love him and so do I. When ever one of them are in a bind - If I'm not home or in reach - he'll help them. I don't know why God blessed me like this. One day It'll all come together. An amazing thing to me. Once I married this man I thought we were fine. I never realized you had to work on a marriage. I learned the hard way but I think we'll be OK. I hope everyone is doing well and happy we're they're at - I know it takes a while but it always work out. |
